Sammi Cannold has directed Korean sea divers in a pool on the Loeb Drama Center Stage in Endlings and put the action of the musical Violet onto a bus that traveled the streets of Harvard Square. Join her and A.R.T. Producer Mark Lunsford to learn about her vision for examining Eva’s story from a female and Argentine perspective in the highly anticipated, groundbreaking revival of Evita she will stage at A.R.T. in May. This is the latest in A.R.T.’s Behind the Scenes series with the writers, directors, composers, and choreographers who are making new work at A.R.T. Past events have included the reveals of songs and scenes from developing productions; conversations about process, research, development, and collaboration; and interactive Q&As with the audience.
One attendee of this Behind the Scenes event will be randomly selected to win a pair of tickets to the Opening Night of Evita on Thursday, May 25! The winner will be announced live at the end of the event.
About Evita:
Sammi Cannold (Forbes 30 Under 30 Hollywood and Entertainment and the youngest female director in A.R.T. history) helms this revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Tony Award-winning rock opera, which follows the adored and reviled Eva Perón’s meteoric rise to first lady of Argentina before her death at 33. Inspired by Hal Prince’s original staging, Cannold evolves her acclaimed concert version that was staged at New York City Center in 2019.
