Renowned saxophonist and Boston native Ricky Ford joins the Makanda Project for a special program, premiering a series of compositions he has written based on poems by Langston Hughes. Lengendary poet Askia Toure will be reading the poems as part of the musical arrangement. The concert is a continuation of the Makanda Project's popular, long-running series in Nubian Square (formerly Dudley Square). The musicians are Kurtis Rivers, Arni Cheatham, Ricky Ford, Sean Berry, Paavo Carey, Charlie Kohlhase (saxophones); Jerry Sabatini, Haneef Nelson, Matthew Kelly, Massimo Paparello (trumpets); Aaron Johnson, Tyler Bonilla, Bill Lowe (trombones); John Kordalewski (piano); John Lockwood (bass); Yoron Israel (drums); Askia Toure (poetry)
