Esther Earl, a Quincy resident, passed away from cancer in 2010. Her moving story, This Star Won't Go Out, inspired hundreds of thousands of readers. This story also inspired the movie The Fault in Our Stars. One of Esther's wishes, as her time grew short, was to tell her friends and family how much she loved them. In that spirit, we will have a postcard station where you can write a note to those special people in your life, and we will mail them for you.
We will also be celebrating Esther's birthday with fun outdoor activities: corn hole, a giant Jenga, frisbee, capture the flag, and more fun lawn games. Stop by with friends or solo to get a little competitive spirit going! Water and snacks available, kindly donated by Roche Bros.
Schedule:
Kids' games: 2-4 p.m.
Teen games: 4-6 p.m
Adult games: 6-8 p.m.
We hope this day will be a fun and positive experience for Quincy residents of all ages. If there is rain, the event will be hosted indoors at the library. Hashtag #EstherDay on social media.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library in collaboration with This Star Won't Go Out, a nonprofit inspiring hope, creating spaces of awesome, and spreading the message of LOVE! Read more at TSWGO.org.
