The Bach Institute: Bach Cantatas and Bach Scholarship - a Conversation with Christoph Wolff and Ryan Turner
THE BACH INSTITUTE May Intensive, May 11 - 22, 2022
Co-directors: Ryan Turner, Artistic Director, Emmanuel Music; and Pamela Dellal, Mezzo-soprano
The Bach Institute May Intensive seeks to share the deep knowledge and experience of the Emmanuel Music ensemble in performing the sacred cantatas of J.S. Bach. Drawing on fifty years of practical experience offering these profound works in a worship context, we bring a unique perspective on the communicative power and timeless relevance of this music, as well as insights into technique, interpretation, and pacing. The Bach Institute, with public events throughout each performance season, provides engagement with Bach’s music through presentations and participatory activities.
The May Intensive, postponed from January, brings together advanced students for an intensive exploration of Bach history and performance practice, with participation in discussions, performances, master classes, and recitals, many open to the public.
All programs are free - reservation required for each program at https://www.emmanuelmusic.org/learn-engage/the-bach-institute
All attendees must comply with Emmanuel Music COVID-19 protocols for all programs: https://www.emmanuelmusic.org/performance-info/covid-19-policies
