Producer Valerie Stephens has partnered with musician & hip hop artist Yuki Kanesaka to bring the power of Nina Simone.
Featuring Valerie Stephens with Yuki Kanasaka, Daniel Day, JL Claybourne, Angelena Hightower, & Art Collins.
Nina Simone is one of the most sampled musicians in hip-hop music. In addition to her remarkable talent, she remained apologetically true to her authenticity. "Mississippi Goddam" speaks to #BlackLivesMatter. "Four Women" speaks to #MeToo. "Brown Baby" speaks to I Want to Live Poetry. This concert is the first of its kind and is in the true sense of Sankofa: “reaching back and moving forward’.
Co-sponsored by Emerson Intercultural, The Division of Student Affairs, Emerson's Hip Hop Society, Emerson's EBONI, and Emerson Student Success.
