Here at LearnLaunch, we’ve been tracking key trends in edtech throughout 2018. Edtech in the workplace, OER, the growth of online learning in higher ed, project/challenge-based learning, personalized learning and adaptive software, intrusive advising based on student data, and AR/VR are some of these trends, just to name a few.


In the final quarter of the year, edtech leaders will discuss how the market has changed and what trends they see coming down the pike for 2019.

Seth Reynolds, Managing Director, Parthenon-EY
Seth is a managing director of EY-Parthenon based in the Boston office and is a leader of EY-Parthenon's Education practice. Seth was with Parthenon for more than two decades before its combination with EY in August 2014. His extensive education experience spans the for-profit and public sectors across K-12, post-secondary and corporate training. He advises clients on issues related to strategy development, operational improvement, performance management, investment due diligence and new venture creation. His clients include a wide range of organizations, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, school districts, universities, government agencies and some of the world’s largest foundations. In addition, Seth has worked extensively with clients in the information publishing and financial services industries. Internally, he leads EY-Parthenon's Alumni Program. Prior to joining Parthenon, Seth was a Teach For America corps member and worked at SchoolNet. He is a founding member of the Board of Trustees of Excel Academy Charter Schools, a charter network in the Boston area. Seth holds a BA in American Studies, magna cum laude, from Amherst College. He received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and his Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.


Silver McDonald, Head of LEGO Education, North America
Silver is responsible for LEGO Education’s North America business to deliver STEM learning and to empower teachers and students with LEGO Education solutions. She has been in the technology industry for more than 20 years with the large majority of those focused on education and sustainability.


Silver began her career as a Managing Producer with Razorfish, working with McKinsey and Company, Sega of America and many other clients as they embraced the digital space. She was an early employee with Schoolnet, an Instructional Improvement System company, and remained with Schoolnet for 10 years, first building its enterprise client consulting team and then leading Sales and Marketing, working with hundreds of districts across the United States. Pearson later acquired Schoolnet, where Silver served as Senior Vice President of K12 Solution Sales, focused on the largest school district and state engagements in the United States. Silver was also Chief Commercial Officer at BrightBytes, an educational research analytics organization focused on improving how the world learns.


She has an MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, a BA from San Francisco State University in Technical and Professional Writing and a certification from Presidio Graduate School in Sustainable Management.


Silver is passionate about student achievement, sustainability issues and having a global impact. Having led both Client Service and Sales teams, she believes in strong teams, delighted customers, and impactful educational solutions. You can find Silver outside of work enjoying cooking, documentaries, traveling, and volunteering.


Matthew Mugo Fields, General Manager, Supplemental and Intervention Solutions, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Matthew has devoted his career to transforming education and ensuring that academic success is attainable for students of all backgrounds. He joined HMH in 2017 and leads the development and growth of the company’s supplemental and intervention solutions. Prior to HMH, Matthew worked at McGraw-Hill Education, overseeing strategy, operations, marketing, and product development for a suite of adaptive learning programs. Matthew also founded education startups – Redbird Advanced Learning, a personalized learning company that developed next generation math and language arts adaptive digital curricula and online teacher professional learning programs; and Rocket Group, the United States’ largest provider of in-school tutoring, which served students in 140 school systems across 20 states. He holds dual master’s degrees in business and education from Harvard University and is an honors graduate of Morehouse College.


Greg Sebasky, Chief Executive Officer, Ascend Learning
As Chief Executive Officer of Ascend Learning, Greg Sebasky’s vision for Ascend Learning is to be the leading career solutions provider, delivering outcomes-based online education to help people enter, sustain and succeed in their chosen fields. It’s a path he’s been on since joining Ascend in early 2014. Greg is a 30-year veteran leader of companies with markets in healthcare and education services. Prior to joining Ascend, Greg served as chairman of Philips Electronics North American division. Greg earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BBA in Accounting. He lives in the Boston area with his family.
