This is the second of two workshops in our March Micro Madness event.

Instructors: Anna Thundersnow & Lucas-Michael Jones

Saturday, March 16, 12–4pm and 5–6:30pm

Micro II: Creative Intimacy

Micro is all about using tiny movements to create intimacy and connection. How can we express ourselves confidently through the art of touch? How can we melt into our partner, yet stay true to our authentic selves?

After reviewing micro fundamentals like body tone and posture, we will dive into more advanced movement vocabulary. Torso isolations and shapes, breathwork, compression, sweeps, height changes, and polyrhythms are all on the menu. Next we will bring these elements together to play with different types of switching lead/follow within a single dance, including microswitching and completing each other’s dance sentences. Finally we will add a dash of creativity to move beyond the basic frame into unusual stances.

This workshop may be taken separately or together with Micro I. It is generally aimed at dancers with more experience in any dance form. The workshop features a strong emphasis on consent, reading body language, and expressing both yes and no. Since the typical micro stance may include touching heads, abdomens, and/or knees, participants should come prepared to be in close contact with each other. There will be two 10-minute breaks for snacks.

Practice, 5–6:30pm (only open to workshop attendees)

Instructors Anna & Lucas-Michael will be available for any questions you may have, but you may use this time to dance and practice what you learned from the workshop. They would also love to dance with you!
