Are you an artist looking to expand your drawing toolkit, a regular from our Tuesday night figure drawing sessions wanting more, or simply seeking creative summer fun? The Cambridge Art Association's new three-part "Experiments in Drawing" series is perfect for you. These innovative workshops begin just as our regular figure drawing sessions end for the season, offering a space to discover unexpected techniques, materials, and perspectives that challenge conventional approaches to drawing. Join us to reimagine the possibilities of drawing through playful exploration, regardless of your experience level.
DRAWING, LAYERING, AND TRANSPARENCY
This drawing class will focus on portraiture and figurative work in an experimental light. Through shuffling the composition of our reference images, using our bodies as guidelines, and drawing with multiple mediums, we will explore different executions for depicting images. Each student will leave with new methods of rendering and perspectives about image making.
Session 1: Graphite & Collage
Create dynamic compositions using graphite and magazine imagery.
Session 2: Ink & Layering
Explore depth through ink drawing on layered paper and vellum.
Session 3: Body Mapping
Trace physical forms as guidelines to inform your drawings.
Materials List (bring to first class)
Optional but not required:
- Magazines to take images from
- Personal reference images you are interested in working from
- scissors
- glue stick
