Do Nutritional Supplements Help Prevent Major Diseases? Making Sense of the Evidence with JoAnn Manson, MD, MPH, DrPH
Join the Boston Public Library in partnership with Beacon Hill Village for this online program. Dr. JoAnn Manson will demystify the conflicting claims on the value of nutritional supplements in preventing heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and other major diseases. She led a landmark randomized trial of more than 25,000 men and women nationwide to test whether Vitamin D and Omega 3 fatty acids help ward off cancer or cardiovascular disease. Also, she’ll comment on the evidence for, or against, taking multivitamins and other supplements. She’ll discuss the risks and benefits of supplement pills, who may benefit, and how to check for quality-control testing. Finally she’ll consider the nutritional value of supplements compared to food sources of nutrients. After her presentation, Dr. Manson will welcome your questions.
