El dia de los muertos will consist of 3 main events and a series of gatherings to build community around this culture that inspires resiliency, we will have conversations about how we as community can support each other in the process of healing to overcome grief, loss, teach one another how to learn to celebrate life despite the challenges of losing a loved one, how we did as community during the Pandemic, how to adapt to a new life using arts and culture as a connector to a path to resiliency. Local artists and crafters will facilitate these activities leading to the big celebration. Local entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to host a table to talk about their project and sell their products. There will be two Parade Floats (Trailers haul by pick up cars). Businesses will have the opportunity to participate on the parede to promote their businesses on the Parade with decorated cars or banners.
Friday September 30th, 7 - 9 PM kick off
Community Gatherings will take place once a week Tuesday or Friday at two locations: Central Square Park and VROCC facilities to be confirmed subject to weather conditions. Activities will include creating elements for the altar and Catrina dresses worn by festival goers such as flower crowns, masks, hats, paper mache flowers; learn face painting. sugar skulls. And decorations for the Parade Floats.

There will be two parade floats with music and music bands along the parade.

Dia de los muertos observance will include community conversations around loss, mourning and resiliency focused on adults, and death in tragic circumstances (breaking down the altar). Building Community.
Wednesday, November 2nd from 6 to 8 PM
Prior to these events and in preparation for the celebration there will be a series of community gatherings coordinated by Dancing Elotes and facilitated by local artists through workshops, conversations that will provide the tools and information to learn ways to self-soothe and cope with stress while working on creating material to build the Altar and cultural dresses for the Parade. (Skull masks, flowers, frames for pictures of the community, etc) .
We will invite the community to bring a picture of their deceased loved one and decorate a picture frame to place it on the community altar.
