On Saturday April 15, Department of P.E.A.C.E is holding an afternoon of inspiration and fun recognizing three social justice heroes for their work in the Boston community with their first Social Impact MVP Award ceremony. Dr Bernard Franklin is the Managing Director of Uncornered, an innovative approach to transform urban communities into violence-free neighborhoods by using the power of active former gang involved leaders to unlock the potential of individuals and cities. Baseball Hall of Fame announcer Peter Gammons is being recognized for his work with the Foundation to Be Named Later, which launched the Peter Gammons College Scholars Program, which provides tuition grants, mentors, and leadership training to a select cohort of college bound students who have overcome tremendous obstacles and have high financial needs. Columbia University Divinity Professor Dr Cornel is a renowned intellectual who has used his position to help move the nation forward in its quest to be a more perfect union.
The event will be held in person from 3pm-6pm at Sanders Theater at Memorial Hall on Harvard Yard, 45 Quincy Street in Cambridge. In addition to the honorees, Keith Errol Benson, Department of P.E.A.C.E co-founder and two time Grammy Award winning producer will be speaking at the awards and fundraiser, which will also feature a concert by the classic soul studio orchestra MFSB, which will be receiving the P.E.A.C.E Cultural Impact Award.
Proceeds raised will benefit the Department of P.E.A.C.E and Uncornered. General admission is $30 with free admission for students. To purchase tickets visit (website).
