Join Devin & Jason McCourty for a zoom town hall!
Every year, incarcerated eligible voters are denied meaningful access to the ballot, those serving felony convictions are denied the right to vote, and prison populations are counted in the census in their place of incarceration, rather than their home community. Together, these systems strip political power from over-policed Black and POC communities.
Last fall, a coalition came together to fight to redress the de-facto disenfranchisement of eligible incarcerated voters. Now, the Democracy Behind Bars Coalition is fighting to pass badly needed legislation -- the Jail-Based Voting Bill -- to ensure that eligible voters can make their political voice heard. The fight to build an equitable, participatory democracy, and recognize the right of folks behind the wall to participate in our democracy, is ongoing and needs your support.
Join us on Wednesday, June 30th at 6pm pm for a discussion of these issues, the work of the Democracy Behind Bars Coalition, and the road ahead.
Panelists:
-Special Guests Jason and Devin McCourty
-Legislative Filers: Senator Adam Hinds and Representative Liz Miranda
-Coalition Partners: Keeda Haynes, the Sentencing Project; Katie Talbot, Neighbor2Neighbor Holyoke, and *pending* Al-Ameen Patterson, the African American Coalition Committee.
