The Museum of Science welcomes musician, writer, community collaborator, and wellness and mindset mentor Genie Santiago and Dalia Kinsey, Registered Dietitian, Inclusive Wellness specialist and author of Decolonizing Wellness: A QTBIPOC-Centered Guide to Escape the Diet Trap, Heal Your Self-Image, and Achieve Body Liberation for an evening of conversation, performance and community.
Join Genie and Dalia for an examination of today’s mainstream wellness, health and nutrition industries and the harmful, racist biases they perpetuate due to a lack of BIPOC and LGBTQ representation. Many representatives of the increasingly popular body positivity movement actually add to the body image concerns of queer people of color by emphasizing cisgender, heteronormative, and Eurocentric standards of beauty. Few mainstream body positivity resources address the intersectional challenges of anti-Blackness, colorism, homophobia, transphobia, and generational trauma that are at the root of our struggles with wellness and self-care.
Now, Genie and Dalia bring their mission to create space for ALL bodies to thrive to the Museum, celebrating the beauty, resilience, and joy of BIPOC and Queer bodies in an evening of dialogue, live performance and celebration. An evening of dialogue, live performances by Genie Santiago and Jazzmyn RED, and a closing celebration with music by DJ Annaesthetic.
