The Dance Complex is popping up around town this July and August with opportunities for FREE dance classes and performances for the community. These events will celebrate the wonder and curiosity of dance for all in accessible settings for our community at large. Through partnerships with the Cambridge Public Library and BioMed Realty, The Dance Complex will bring local artists out into the community, teaching and performing a variety of dance genres.
A class for students new to House, or new to dance altogether. This class focuses on developing students’ foundation of house dance (basic rhythm, step, and grooves) at a pace suitable for beginners. Because house is a social dance at its core, aspects of social dancing will also be demonstrated through group exercises.
Popularized in NY dance clubs, House dance gained popularity in the 1980s following the disco era. Today, House is practiced all over the world. House music is influenced by many music genres including Jazz, African, Latin, Hip Hop, R&B, and Funk, which also speaks to the versatility found throughout the dance. The music drives a dance style typically characterized by intricate foot steps, fluid torso movements and floor work.
