Dot Jazz, Mandorla Music's presenting partnership with Greater Ashmont Main Street, returns on Saturday 12/4 for our first in-person concert since early 2020, a duo show by drummer Dan Weiss and guitarist Miles Okazaki.
The concert will take place in Peabody Hall at the Parish of All Saints, 209 Ashmont Street, Dorchester. There's free parking at the church, which is around the corner from Ashmont Station on the Red Line, and there are several great dinner options nearby for pre or post-show dining.
Note that in the interest of safety, capacity will be limited, and we'll be asking folks to show proof of COVID vaccination status and to remain masked during the concert.
Drummer Dan Weiss and guitarist Miles Okazaki met at the Manhattan School of Music in 1997 and have been exploring and creating together in a wide range of situations ever since. They released their debut duo recording Music For Drums And Guitar (Cygnus Recordings) earlier this fall.
The album is comprised of two suites commissioned for John Zorn's Stone Commissioning Series, Okazaki's The Memory Palace and Weiss' Middlegame. The Memory Palace debuted in late February 2020 at National Sawdust in Brooklyn. The world had changed radically by the time Middlegame was to have debuted a month later at the same venue. Across these two suites, the music is sometimes searching and sometimes precise, sometimes dreamy and sometimes noisy, often surprising, always intricate and engaging.
