The next, and final, show in Curtain Call Theatre’s (CCT) 2023-2024 season is “Bright Star”, which runs May 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 8:00 PM and May 12 and 19 at 2:00 PM.
Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, “Bright Star” is an intriguing tale of love and redemption, in which literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from WWII who awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past and what she finds will transform both of their lives.
Said Chrissy Lamont who plays Alice Murphy, “I’m really looking forward to sharing this beautiful show with audiences. I like that “Bright Star” - with its bluegrass-tinged score and shifting tones from light-hearted to dark - is a rather unexpected musical. My character, Alice Murphy, is seen at two vastly different stages of her life, jumping from flashbacks in the 1920s to “present day” in the 1940s. It’s an incredible opportunity for me to explore the journey of this brilliant, resilient woman as she faces and challenges the world around her.
“Along with a couple of heartbreaking moments, there’s so much humor, charm, and tenderness to the story. The show is ultimately uplifting, with messages of redemption and optimism in the face of difficulties. To quote the show, ‘the sun is gonna shine again'!”
Director Toni Ruscio added, “This is an extraordinary group of people. This team truly loves each other – actors and production team members both – and that type of energy radiates from the stage and captivates audiences. We support each other both on and off the stage because we know, as Chrissy mentioned, the sun in gonna shine again. This show is fun and poignant and our goal in presenting it is to fill every person with hope. Hope that things will always work out in the end. Hope for a better tomorrow. Hope that one day we will each reach our own bright star.”
Directed by Toni Ruscio (Weymouth), music directed by Marilyn Whipple (Milton), choreographed by Hallie Grace Nowicki (Hingham), stage managed by Erin Thomas-Lopatosky (Easton). “Bright Star” stars Chrissy Lamont (Westwood) as Alice Murphy, Amos Byrne (Quincy) as Billy Cane, Trey Lundquist (Brockton) as Jimmy Ray Dobbs, Kelsey Tidball (Charlestown) as Margo Crawford, Hallie Grace Nowicki (Hingham) as Lucy Grant, Quinn Keegan (Pembroke) as Daryl Ames, Jimmy Phelan (Quincy) as Mayor Josiah Dobbs, Sean Keegan (Pembroke) as Daddy Murphy, Carol Stearns (Weymouth) as Mama Murphy, Steve Dooner (Weymouth) as Daddy Cane, Mark Logue (West Roxbury) as Dr. Norquist, Dave Troilo (Plymouth) as Stanford, Hannah Clifford (Somerville) as Florence, Emily Waysack (Roslindale) as Edna, Sean Broderick (Weymouth) as Max, and Kerry Railey (Weymouth) as the Government Clerk.
