Alexandria Nunweiler and Ashlea Sovetts present CURE8 Cambridge, two evenings of dance brought together by interdependent and intertwined relationships in the community at Complex@Canal, Saturday April 30th at 8 p.m., and Sunday May 1, at 7 p.m.
For these performances, the curators invited newly formed collaborative, The Click to share “Survival Aesthetics,” which explores variations of beauty and argues aesthetics are key to survival. Duo Decent Dance brings “cradled in the arms of myself (with you)” along with independent choreographer Rachel Linsky who is reviving the music of Erwin Schulhoff, a Jewish composer and holocaust victim. Ashlea Sovetts premieres “in her little room,” inspired by her grandmother’s diary and the stories exchanged of regret, loss, hope, and eternal love. The collaborators together present “10 Recalling-20,” a duet based on interviews from ten individuals spanning ages 4 to 85, weaving a crosshatch of the American experience in crisis and the reconnection of society.
Nunweiler & Sovetts’ hopes for CURE8 Cambridge is that it will “be an uplifting experience and shed light on true stories, natural beauty, and fond memories” as they strengthen the bridge of dance on the east coast from South Carolina to Massachusetts.
