Join sculptor Marilu Swett in a participatory exploration of casting. This session features a mini-talk by the artist, including a visit to her sculpture Untitled (Whale Heart) on display in Sizing It Up: Scale in Nature and Art, followed by a casting demo and workshop in which participants get to make their own hand casts in alginate to take home. Each participant will also receive a pass to come back to see French sculptor Auguste Rodin’s plaster casts in the upcoming exhibition Rodin:Transforming Sculpture, opening Saturday May 14.
Marilu Swett holds a BFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art. She makes art in the dual areas of sculpture and drawing, and her work reflects her ongoing interest in biological form, its volume, complexity and variety, as well as the ways we as humans interrogate it.
Reservations are mandatory (please do so by May 4) and include free admission for this tour/talkback, as well as museum admission. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
