Have you ever wondered what it would be like to conduct an orchestra? The musicians of Me2/ (“me, too”) are inviting people to step onto the conductor’s podium at a free event in Boston’s Ramsay Park on Sunday, September 19 between 1:00–3:00 p.m. Passersby of all ages will be given the opportunity to pick up the conductor’s baton and direct a string orchestra of 20 musicians.
The musicians of Me2/ will play the first movement of Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” for anyone who wishes to try their hand at conducting. A production team from Artists for Humanity will document the event and produce a video highlighting the most joyful moments to be shared with the general public in October.
This project is a collaboration between Me2/ and Artists for Humanity, two Boston-based nonprofit organizations. Me2/ is committed to erasing the stigma surrounding mental illness through supportive classical music rehearsals and inspiring performances. Artists for Humanity provides under-resourced teens the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design. The two organizations are joining forces as part of the City of Boston’s “Joy Agenda”, an effort designed to hold space for joy while also investing in opportunities for healing, imagination and play during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project is supported by a Transformative Public Art grant from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture.
