Performer, composer, and educator George W. Russell Jr. has been playing piano since he was seven years old. Whether he’s solo, accompanied by his groove-oriented jazz trio, or part of a boisterous larger ensemble, Russell arouses intellects and touches souls with his unique fusion of gospel and soul.
Joined by vocalist Lydia Lovely, drummer Sean Skeete, saxophonist Walter Smith III, and bassist Wes Wirth, Russell comes to the MFA to close out the 2023 Concerts in the Courtyard with a performance full of passion, fire, and spirit.
This concert celebrates “Art and Jazz,” an installation exploring the intersections of American art and jazz that’s part of “Stories Artists Tell: Art of the Americas, the 20th Century.”
