In 2008, Juan Perfetti started Comunicas’ first neighborhood media outlet, in the town he grew up in Venezuela. By now, Comunicas serves dozens of communities in the metropolitan area of Caracas, capitol of Venezuela.
On November 28, the Comunicas organization, led by Juan Perfetti, will launch an online crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to expand the organization’s operations to all the states of Venezuela, and thus create a “Venezuelan Community Media Network” independent of the political parties, that empowers the people from the neighborhoods, creates bridges, emphasizes the dialogue, and inspires them to build a better Venezuela … regardless of the hopelessness, the bad government, the bad politicians and the big money.
The event will be held at the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) building, located at 50 Milk Street, Boston, MA.
Comunicas is a non-profit, non-governmental, news organization that develops citizen journalism in neighborhoods. Comunicas provides a platform for different neighborhoods in Venezuela to form an online media outlet, through which individuals and local organizations can report locally and rely on the data provided by other neighbors.
