Join us for our first ever Combat Archery tournament at Archery Games Boston! Think dodgeball, but swap out the balls for bows & foam tipped arrows!
Sign up as a full team, small group, or a free agent!
Rules are similar to dodgeball:
- Get tagged by an arrow on any part of your body, you are Out and go to the sideline. Anything you're holding counts as part of your body (bow, arrow in hand) and all shots must be direct (can't hit floor, ceiling or someone else), must contact you first and are considered dead upon impact.
- Catching an arrow can bring back a teammate. Shooting out the Targets on the floor (there is a target board for each team) can also revive teammates. No banking targets for future use. If you shoot an arrow and it is caught, you are not out. Caught arrows just result in a revive, not an Out.
- There is an 8' safety zone that divides the players. It's a shared space for retrieving arrows, no shooting from within the Zone and cannot be shot when both feet are in. 3 seconds of safety, and then must exit. Can only re-enter after 3 seconds as well.
- Only one arrow in a player's possession is allowed.
- Each "round" is 3 minutes in length: Your team can win the round by either eliminating the entire opposition within the 3 minutes, having more players at the end of 3 minutes, or if tied after 3 minutes, winning in Sudden Death (next tag out wins)
- Each match will consist of 9 rounds and the winner is first to win 5 rounds (typically all games matter for season standings, so we don't stop if a team is 5-0 and would play the entire 9 games. If the match ends within an hour, then we usually play fun games where split up both teams and just scrimmage for the remaining time.
- There are also Safety Rules: Keep helmet on, always hold your bow, if any damaged equipment bring it to the ref, stoppages of play if someone gets hurt/equipment breaks and a card system for certain things like name-calling, cheating, breaking rules (first card is Yellow: that player starts Off the next game (-1 for their team on the field as well), and if Red card: that player is ejected from the game and their team plays down a player on the field for the rest of the match.
The 9 games played are all pretty similar but we might start off differently:
- Games 1 & 2: Four bunkers on the field (preset positions) and players run to the Safety Zone to retrieve their first arrow
- Games 3 & 4: Four bunkers on the field, but players all start on their back fence with an arrow in hand (not loaded)
- Short break usually
- Games 5 & 6: Allow players to move the 4 bunkers to their preferred position before the game starts (game 6 only has 3 bunkers per side, remove one)
- Games 6 & 7: Drop down to two bunkers, players start with arrows like games 3&4
- Game 8 & 9: No bunkers left on field, game 8 running up for arrows, game 9 starting with arrow
