For the seventh year, the Clever Hand Gallery hosts the Collaboration in Clay and Metals with the Intensive Metals and Intensive Clay students at Wellesley High School. The Collaboration features an exhibit of student work at the downtown Wellesley gallery.
This year the Metals Intensive students entered an imaginary competition to design and create a commissioned piece of work for a client. They were required to prepare for their interview, create designs, and fabricate their final work in hopes of winning the competition with a prize of $3000 pretend dollars and bragging rights. The commissioned piece could be jewelry or sculpture, but needed to utilize Bakelite, a plastic popular in the mid 20th century, and have a 1940s or 50s era look.
Amie Larson's Ceramics Intensive students were encouraged to produce a wide variety of work reflecting their individual heritage and identity, figure or animal sculptures, and functional pottery.
Everyone is invited to see the results of the students’ creative endeavors. The exhibition will be April 10-29 with a public reception on Tuesday, April 25, from 2:30-4 PM at the Clever Hand Gallery, 52 Central Street, Wellesley.
