ABOUT PETER DRUMMEY
Peter Drummey has been the Stephen T. Riley Librarian of the Massachusetts Historical Society since 1987, where he now works on outreach and exhibitions. A native of Duxbury, he attended college and graduate school at Columbia University. After graduating from a program to train rare book librarians and archivists at Columbia, he returned to Massachusetts, where he was the curator of manuscripts at the New England Historic Genealogical Society before joining the staff at the Massachusetts Historical Society in 1978. Over the course of forty years, he has assisted thousands of researchers who have visited the Historical Society, and a far larger number who have requested information from a distance. He also has served as a technical adviser for documentary films and television programs with historical themes. While Peter is responsible for a collection most famous for its holdings from the colonial and early national period, including the personal papers of John and John Quincy Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, his personal research interests center on the era of the First World War - especially the social and technological impact of the war.
