On Saturday, November 9th, Mayor Thomas P. Koch and the City of Quincy will pay tribute to Quincy’s unwavering dedication to serving our nation. A monument will be dedicated at Mt. Wollaston Cemetery to those who served in the Persian Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan and Global War on Terror. The City will celebrate those who served and honor six remarkable veterans posthumously, Sergeant Charles T. Caldwell (Kia), Captain Jack Salenius, Private Dennis C. Thompson, Corporal Ciara M. Durkin, Lieutenant Christopher E. Smeglin, Specialist Donny Nguyen and Sergeant Macdoughlas Deegan.
“We pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms and our way of life”, shared Mayor Koch. “Each of these people exemplified courage and commitment, reminding us of the true cost of liberty.”
The City of Quincy welcomes the public to attend the ceremony by lining the sidewalks of Coddington Street from Quincy High School, 100 Coddington Street to Sea Street at 9:30 a.m. A parade of Veterans will march this route into Mt. Wollaston Cemetery where all can gather for the ceremony that will be held at 10:00 a.m. Remarks will be shared by Quincy natives General Jospeh F. Dunford, USMC (ret.) and General James C. McConville, USA (ret.). Quincy Veterans Services, Quincy Police Color Guard & the Quincy/North Quincy High School Band will participate in the program.
