In conjunction with the Dance Complex and the Theatre of Transformation Academy (Switzerland/France/England), Maryann Perrone proposes a ‘Circle of Solidarity and Dance’.
In these turbulent and tremendous times, Maryann wishes to gather a group of dancers and citizens to give testimony to their stories, concerns and visions. Through a three-hour dance and creative workshop, the participants will explore ways to ‘move’ into their stories and visions, and creatively cultivate support systems and calls to action.
The experience will be comprised of a ‘circle of solidarity’ through words and movement, a contemporary dance warm-up (aligning and awakening the body and mind), and a creative workshop (shaping and assembling ideas and artistic vignettes).
The Theatre of Transformation Academy will also bear witness to the words, movement and visions of this gathering (via online interaction and visual/audio recordings of the experience). TofT Academy is an international peace and justice organization seeking to bring humanity and creativity to the center of public and political responses to the emerging needs of life on earth (www.theatreoftransformation.org).
Through this experience, the participants will be encouraged to build new circles of solidarity and new forms of personal and collective activism.
Maryann Perrone: has worked and created in the dance field for over 30 years - in the United States, France and England. Her expertise is in contemporary dance and interdisciplinary arts. She has the French terminal degree in dance and pedagogy, and a master degree in Anthropology of Dance. She is currently on the faculty for the French National Diploma of Dance and is the artistic director for the dance collective of Intersections International in NYC. She has also begun to lead the arts program for the newly launched Theatre of Transformation Academy based in Geneva, Switzerland, Valmoray, France (Home for Humanity), and Oxford, England (University of Oxford’s Centre for International Studies). Both organizations work for peace and reconciliation, and human rights causes.
Maryann perceives the creative process in a more holistic manner; interweaving arts, cultures and people. Through her artistic projects and teaching, she hopes to help build stronger, more compassionate and creative communities.
