The Harvard Square Business Association is excited to announce the 10th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration in Harvard Square. The pageantry begins at 1:00pm on Sunday, February 28th in Winthrop Park (at the intersection of Mt. Auburn and JFK Streets) with the colorful and exciting lion dance. Immediately following the dance, parade with us through Harvard Square as we march down Massachusetts Avenue, and onward to our final destination, The Hong Kong Restaurant, 1238 Massachusetts Avenue.
The Hong Kong, a venerable Harvard Square institution since 1954, opens its doors and welcomes the public for an afternoon of food, art and music. These free, family friendly activities begin at 2:00pm and conclude at 4:00pm. The Hong Kong stands as a shining example of the diverse cultures and cuisine that can be found in Harvard Square.
Schedule of Activities:
1:00pm Lion Dance Parade assembles in Winthrop Park, followed by the procession to the Hong Kong
2:00pm – 4:00pm Arts and Crafts on the 2nd floor of the Hong Kong; Performances, Lantern Riddles and prizes on the 3rd floor of the Hong Kong
Performances and arts and crafts are presented by the Chinese Culture Connection in Malden. www.chinesecultureconnection.org
Make sure to stop by A Friendly Inn at Harvard at 1673 Cambridge Street between noon and 5:00pm for Selfie with a Little Red Monkey, a Chinese New Year celebration with cultural activities for children including red envelope and Chinese character drawings.
Monkeys will be busy with their careers or hobbies so they may not find much time to indulge In romance, so they are advised to take time out and spend quality time with their loved ones. Single monkeys are advised to be patient. A successful relationship is possible, but only if it is not forced and happens naturally. They have the potential for unexpected wealth and abundance, although they should be wary of becoming too greedy. However, there are a few unlucky stars, so they are advised to be cautious and rest whenever possible. This year they need to pay attention to who they can trust and put things in place to balance their lifestyle so they relax, recuperate and rest more. Whenever anything goes wrong this year, just remember to remain optimistic, keep smiling, show kindness and be sincere when making amends and any difficulties will very quickly be rectified.
