All the Basics. All the Cheese. Cheese 101 covers all the basics and makes sure all your curdy questions get answered, all while eating (cheese!) and drinking (wine!) in our cozy shop with a select group of fellow curd nerds. This class covers the 5 basic types of cheese and how they are made, what makes them stand out, a bit of their history, and why they are important and delicious! Cheesemaking is complex and there are a lot of crazy words thrown around when talking about it. Washed rind (does it really get a bath?!), Bloomy rind (is the white stuff on the outside really mold?!), Bandaged (did it get hurt?!) and what on earth makes blue cheese "blue"?? All of these questions will be answered with a flight of five cheeses along with delicious accompaniments (chocolate! honey! almonds! fruit!) and a flight of wine pairings. Hosted and taught by Allium Market’s very own in-house Cheese Educator, Dan McElligott, and featuring wines from our friends at The Wine Press in Brookline.
