Chameleon Arts Ensemble closes its 22nd chamber music season with “a thousand tales sung” featuring five fantastical works of whimsy and enchantment. Robert Schumann’s Märchenerzählungen for clarinet, viola, and piano transports us to a magical world of innocence and fairy tales while Miriam Gideon offers a parody of children’s verse with her Rhymes from the Hill for soprano, clarinet, cello, and marimba. Karol Szymanowski’s 1915 Mythes for violin and piano conjures shimmering reflections of Narcissus and Pan, and William Alwyn portrays deadly water nymphs with his Naiades – Fantasy Sonata for flute and harp. Finally, Brahms gives us an exquisite illustration of Goethe’s Werther with his c minor Piano Quartet.
Tickets are $49, $38 or $27 with $5 off for students and seniors. Performances take place on Saturday, May 9 at 8 PM and Sunday, May 10 at 4 PM at First Church in Boston. For more information or to order tickets, please call 617-427-8200 or visit http://www.chameleonarts.org.
