Chameleons Francesca dePasquale, Gary Gorczyca, and Vivian Chang-Freiheit share a daring Up Close recital anchored by Bartók’s 20th century classic, Contrasts for violin, clarinet, and piano. Bartók found his voice in folk music and exploited the boundaries of expression with barbaric energy, quixotic shifts, and wondrous, breathless calms. Sebastian Currier’s On the Verge also stands at the edge of excess with quirky, ever-changing moods and Helena Tulve’s Saar (Island) for clarinet and violin explores the variety of texture that can be summoned from just two instruments. Rounding out the program, Carl Reinecke’s Fantasiestücke and Robert Schumann’s a minor Violin Sonata ride waves of emotion from the most delicate utterings to extravagant outpourings of passion and verve.
Tickets are $50 with $5 off for students and seniors.
