The critically-acclaimed Chameleon Arts Ensemble presents a sumptuous chamber music program examining the crossroads of creativity and life. Anchoring the concert is Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 87, a work that offers a thrilling view into his evolving style, marrying youthful effervescence with grand, near-orchestral textures and ever more direct and dramatic expression. Jeremy Gill’s Winternacht for flute, viola, and harp and Philippe Hersant’s Im fremden Land for clarinet, string quartet, and piano provide glimpses of the delicate intersections between night and day, life and death. Rounding out the program are Villa-Lobos’ Quintette en forme de chôros and Kodály’s Sonatina for cello and piano.
