Castle of our Skins, Boston’s concert and educational series dedicated to celebrating Black artistry, with close curatorial guidance from its fourth Shirley Graham du Bois Creative in Residence dancer Jenny Oliver, explores what it means to belong to a person, place, and oneself through its season opener performance: Belonging. Held on Sunday, November 5th from 3:00-5:00pm at Roxbury’s Hibernian Hall (184 Dudley Street), Belonging will include “Connection Stations” beginning at 3:00pm with participatory driven and artist curated workshops designed to deepen one’s connection to self, followed at 4:00pm by an immersive mix of music, dance, and spoken word performances. Light refreshments will be provided.

Jenny Oliver is an artist in the Greater Boston area working as a teacher, performer, choreographer and advocate for artistic integrity. Her work sits at the intersection of dance, education, and collective collaboration to elevate issues affecting Black and Indigenous people. As a culturally Black person of Cape Verdean and Native American heritage, she believes it's important to address the erasure of Native people and the ongoing systemic injustices towards Black people. Through dance, she is inspired by the ability movement holds to catalyze meaningful and effective change in the lives of others.

Collaborating artists involved with Belonging include choreographer and curator Jenny Oliver; dancers Erin Chiesa, Izzi King, Analiese Tatum. Imani Deal and Rachael Thomas; guitarist Ciyadh Wells; marimbist Steph Davis, and spoken word artist Dzidzor.

Castle of our Skins is a Black arts institution dedicated to fostering cultural curiosity and celebrating Black artistry through music. In classrooms, concert halls, and beyond, Castle of our Skins invites exploration into Black heritage and culture, spot-lighting both unsung and celebrated figures of past and present. For more information, visit www.castleskins.org.

Tickets for the interactive and thought-provoking experience are FREE with a donation to Castle of our Skins encouraged. Reservations can be placed online at https://givebutter.com/belonging.
