Six teams headed by top local chefs will display their innovative talents in transforming
rescued food into a spectacular tasting menu at the 2nd annual Ultimate Food Rescue
Challenge on August 15 at Capo in South Boston. Ingredients used will be collected from
local farms and distributors just hours before the event, where chefs will be challenged to
quickly and creatively produce dazzling dishes for attendees.
Chefs participating in the event include Chef Ismail Samad of The Daily Table, Chef Mark
Christian McMann of Moona, Chef Stephen Coe from The Industry, Chef Kate Holowchik of
the Townshend, Paul Desrochers (better known as @PaulieCooks), and Mike Fucci, Food
Network Champion and winner of Cutthroat Kitchen.
The Ultimate Food Rescue Challenge will help raise awareness of food insecurity and food
waste in Massachusetts. Though enough food is produced to feed everyone in our society,
nutritional, high quality food often fails to reach the plates of those who need it most. Food is often wasted due to consumer behavior, oversupply, and poor distribution models.
The event will also feature hand-selected wines, hyper-local beers, and a live auction. All
proceeds will support Three Squares New England, a non-profit that raises awareness and
funds for local hunger relief initiatives.
Chef Tony Susi will share his kitchen at Capo, where he and Chef Nick Dixon will be resources for the guest chefs as they battle it out for Three Squares New England.
