Despite the major advancements women have made in business over the last decade, a huge gap still exists when it comes to female entrepreneurs and venture funding. A recent Bloomberg report revealed that companies founded by women received an average of $77 million in venture funding compared to the $100 million male-led startups raised. Capital W was created with one goal in mind: closing that gap.
The third-annual Capital W will take place at District Hall on Thursday, June 8 and is focused on connecting women to capital. This year's theme is the intersection of wellness and technology and will feature three interactive pitch sessions where female founders can present their businesses to the audience in addition to a panel of venture capitalists who will provide real-time feedback.

While organizers are looking for ventures that combine healthcare and technology for two of the sessions, the third will be a generalist session for those companies that do not fall into that sector. Those interested in the generalist session should apply for "Open Call". The selection committee will primarily be focused on businesses that have a strong team, a very clear problem they are solving and a solid proof of concept. Applicants should be in the process of, or ready to raise venture funding.
Early bird tickets are available for $125 (until April 28) while regular pricing is $150. Seating is limited. To register, visit the Eventbrite page here. This year, Capital W is running a giveaway for a limited number of free tickets for students and entrepreneurs. From May 15 to May 30 only, qualified students can apply with proof of valid student ID, and entrepreneurs can apply with an existing link for proof of startup (website, Facebook page) or provide a full description of business and/or the idea. Full details and qualifications can be found here. Winners will be announced Friday, June 2.
