Cape Cod Bay Challenge Stand Up Paddle Event Returns for its 16th Year to Benefit Christopher’s Haven

Annual SUP Challenge Donates 100% of Proceeds to Non-Profit That Provides Housing for Families of Children Being Treated for Cancer at Nearby Boston Hospitals

The 16th Annual Cape Cod Bay Challenge (CCBC), the oldest and most recognized stand-up paddle (SUP) event in the Northeast, returns this year in-person and virtually to benefit Christopher’s Haven, a home for kids when cancer hits home. Located near Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Christopher’s Haven consists of nine fully furnished apartments and a community recreation area for families of children being treated for cancer in nearby Boston hospitals.

Over the past 16 years, the Cape Cod Bay Challenge has raised over $1 million to benefit Christopher’s Haven and has attracted nearly 650 participants.

This summer the CCBC will offer three options for paddlers to participate: a 16-mile in-person distance paddle, a five-mile in-person “CCBC-Lite” paddle, and a virtual paddle. There will also be an After Paddle Celebration at the Levitate Backyard & Rexicana Surf Cantina from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm on August 19th (1871 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA). Tickets to the event are available on the event’s registration website.

“The past 16 years have been about dedication and commitment to Christopher’s Haven and the children and families the organization supports,” said CCBC President Mike Chase. “Each year’s event brings so much joy and comradery amongst the participants all while raising awareness for Christopher’s Haven, and I don’t think there’s really anything much better than that. None of this would be possible without our sponsors, Levitate & Wachusett Brewing Company. We cannot thank them enough for their support over the years.”

100% of the proceeds from the CCBC will benefit Christopher’s Haven, located at One Emerson Place in Boston’s West End, across the street from Massachusetts General Hospital. Over 500 families have stayed at Christopher’s Haven to date, and the Cape Cod Bay Challenge’s support over the past 16 years has contributed to making those stays possible.

“It’s invaluable what Bob Babcock, Mike Chase, and their team at Cape Cod Bay Challenge has done to support us over the past sixteen years,” said Christopher’s Haven Executive Director Joyce Duvall. “We cherish all our partners, but it’s truly special when an organization from outside the Boston region supports our cause and spreads the word about what we do to other parts of the state and beyond. Christopher’s Haven is welcoming and accepting of families and children from all over the state, the country, and the world, and organizations like CCBC help us get that message across,” added Duvall.

Paddler registration, ticket information, and pricing can be found by visiting their event page.
