On Sunday, January 26, 2020, the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra (CSO) presents two consecutive performances (2 pm and 4 pm) of its annual Family Concert—a chance for music lovers of all ages to enjoy a variety of classical music for the whole family—at the Center for Arts at the Armory.
This concert includes Prokofiev’s beloved retelling of Peter and the Wolf: the classic story set to music, with a cast of characters including a duck, a pet cat, and the foreboding wolf himself. Leslie Wu Foley, the Helaine B. Allen Director of Education and Community Engagement for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, narrates.
We’re also thrilled to invite New England Conservatory young artist Nicolas Bass to perform the final movement of the Elgar Cello Concerto.
After the concert, children are invited to our instrument petting zoo, where they can try out string, woodwind, and brass instruments themselves.
Our Spotlight Partner for the Family Concert is The Children’s Room of Arlington, MA. The Children’s Room creates safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen or family has to grieve alone.
The CSO 2019-20 season is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Instruments for the instrument petting zoo provided by David French Music Co.
Tickets are $20 (general), $10 (students and seniors), and $5 for children 12 and under, and can be purchased at http://www.cambridgesymphony.org.
Established in 1975, the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, Inc. (CSO) is a 501(c)(3) community music organization presenting classical music to diverse audiences who value great music in an accessible environment. Our volunteer musicians hail from Cambridge, Somerville and other parts of Greater Boston. As the only community orchestra in Cambridge and Somerville, the CSO creates outstanding programing through the combined energy of dozens of dedicated and talented individuals who believe in the importance of classical music and expanding our community’s access to it.
