In the years between 1912, when Edward Hopper made his first visit to Gloucester, and 1923 when he returned, the city grew in every imaginable way boasting 40 hotels, 1000 cottages for rent, opportunities for golf, swimming and walking, and a growing number of venues for looking at and purchasing art. Explore this important time in Gloucester’s past and learn what Edward Hopper and Josephine Nivison experienced when they choose the city as their summer vacation spot.
