QUINCY, MASS. – Summery cocktails under the stars, live music indoors and out, and brand new pineapple jalapeno wings – the latest addition to one of Boston’s most legendary wing menus – highlight Cagney’s Restaurant & Pub’s 25th anniversary sidewalk festival this weekend (Friday, July 15 – Sunday, July 17).
The festival celebrates the silver anniversary of this beloved neighborhood watering hole (214 Washington St., 617-847-3940) and the role it has played in historic Quincy’s culinary ascendancy.
Expect plenty of great beer guests can sip under the sun and stars; delicious new additions to Cagney’s menu of super-creative-casual dishes; talented musical acts; plus chances to win the "ultimate Boston day" with Red Sox box seats and a tour of the Samuel Adams Brewery, or a guitar signed by country music superstar Jason Aldean.
“This festival is our way to say thanks to our neighbors who have faithfully supported us for 25 years and who helped spread the word far and wide following the dramatic upgrades to the décor, menu and beer selection we’ve made in recent years,” said Cagney's owner Mark DiBona.
Cagney’s thrived for years as a classic neighborhood haunt serving cold beer and pub-food favorites. But sensing changes were about to sweep over Quincy, DiBona in recent years doubled down on the future of his Washington Street neighborhood, a few blocks outside Quincy Center.
He refreshed the interior and exterior with a $150,000 upgrade, added a progressive craft-beer program and introduced a menu of ultra-creative versions of casual pub classics. Today, guests lucky enough to land a table devour Cagney’s homemade Rueben egg rolls, pulled-pork-bacon “Roadhouse” burgers, and its spectacular new blueberry Sriracha wings, which have quickly become a cult favorite.
Cagney’s craft beer program is highlighted by its popular Local 8 collection – a chalkboard selection of eight New England-brewed beers that rotates daily.
“Regulars and newcomers alike come in and immediately want to know what’s on the Local 8 today,” said DiBona.
The festive menu and the Local 8 beer program have generated acclaim from Phantom Gourmet, the Boston Herald, the Patriot Ledger and other local media outlets, while helping Cagney’s double its business in recent years.
Cagney’s will offer plenty of new items during its 25th anniversary sidewalk bash this weekend. Among them: coffee-spice-rubbed “presidential” burger sliders with cheddar, crispy bacon, and red onion, that pay tribute to Quincy as the City of Presidents; house-made triple bacon clam chowder with fresh clams and three different kinds of smoky bacon; and pineapple jalapeno wings, the newest addition to Cagney’s legendary wing menu.
Cagney’s also introduced a new summertime cocktail menu that will be available during the sidewalk festival. Options include: Mac’s Tea Time Shandy (Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka, fresh lemon); Kiwi-Melon Margarita (Don Julia tequila, muddled watermelon, kiwi juice, orange liqueur); Lemon Mint Martini (Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka, lemonade, prosecco, fresh mint).
