Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center at 1 Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport will be aflutter with indoor and outdoor activity on Sunday, July 22, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, with its Butterflies and Bugs Family Open House.
Drop in at Joppa Flats for a free open house about everything you’ve ever wanted to know about butterflies, moths, and caterpillars. Staff members and volunteers will provide helpful information, hands-on learning, and several family-friendly activities, including lessons in backyard science, craft projects, and critter collecting demonstrations. Outdoors and inside the Education Center, rain or shine.
School & Family Education Coordinator Lisa Hutchings and other naturalists will offer a family presentation at 11am and 1pm.
Are there critters in your own back yard that you can’t identify? Bring in your specimen (along with a sample of the plant it was on) or bring in a photo to Joppa Flats on July 22, and the staff will do their best to help you learn to identify your “mystery bug.”
The free activities for adults and families will be held all day, rain or shine. Preregistration is not required. All ages are welcome.
