Burger Slam '17 will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 6:30pm. The Burger Slam is a friendly cook-off competition among Boston restaurants: Back Deck, The Haven, Magnolia Smokehouse, and Rox Diner.
The Burger Slam is organized by parents at the JP Manning Elementary School, a Boston public school in Jamaica Plain, MA. What began as a school community event has grown into a community-wide event, attracting foodies in the area and support from generous sponsors. The primary goal of this event is to celebrate the restaurant community and to raise funds to support a strong curriculum for the kids and teachers who work so hard at this small school
As we enter our 6th Annual Burger Slam competition, we've seen our event grow from a small venue, to our current location at Spontaneous Celebrations in the heart of Jamaica Plain. We've also seen our list of chefs and attendees grow each year. This growth has helped us to raise more funds to support an outdoor classroom, investment in the arts, and more field trips & technological resources for our students.
The fundraiser is open to the public ages 21 and over who want to come and taste some of Boston's best burgers and vote for their favorite - all while raising money for the kids at the Manning School.
