The Brandeis Wind Ensemble will present music from contemporary composers. Steampunk Suite by Erica Svanoe attempts to depict various scenes from a fictional alternate history that features notable people alive in the Victorian era. Brooklyn Air by Michael Markowski mixes freshly baked donuts, sweet springtime flowers, and salty ocean breezes combined with car exhaust, dust, and sun-baked garbage to form an aromatic paradox. Oleksandr Petrov’s Ukrainian Colors was written in the summer of 2022 during a full-scale war with Russia. To celebrate his country, the composer uses several motifs from traditional Ukrainian folk songs and dances. And Stacking by Shuying Li is an energetic exploration of scales twisting and turning in great and exciting complexity.
