Opera and classical music lovers have a better chance than ever to experience Richard Wagner’s magnum opus, Götterdämmerung (The Ring Cycle), thanks to Massachusetts composer and conductor Jonathan McPhee. At this online event, the globally in-demand Music Director for Lexington Symphony demonstrates how he reduced the first half of Wagner’s 15-hour opus into a one-night, three-hour performance arranged for standard-sized orchestras. McPhee will also talk about his work on other grand pieces like Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” and “Firebird.” A fascinating behind-the-scenes story of meticulous, years-in-the-making musical detective work that any music fan will love. On Zoom. Free for Boston Wagner Society members; $10 for non-members. Tickets at bostonwagnersociety.org, Zoom link sent upon registration.
