Unite with Boston area renters as we build the housing justice movement to win the safe and affordable housing we deserve, rise up to demand not a single COVID eviction once the moratorium lifts in August, and affirm that housing justice is racial justice!
Join AIM AS 1, a union of Samia tenants, at a standout outside the administrative office of Samia Properties. Leonard Samia owns over 2,500 rental units and is one of the city's most notorious slumlords. As Samia tenants, we’re calling for our billionaire landlord to respond to our tenant letters, address truly unsafe building conditions, release us from abusive leases, and reduce the rent!
Even before the pandemic hit, working people were already facing a housing and eviction crisis that has only become more dire in recent months. As rents continue to rise, poor and working people face the impossible choice of becoming increasingly cost-burdened by rent or pushed out of the neighborhoods we call home. In Massachusetts, as well as many other states across the country, black female renters face the highest rates of eviction, and people of color are disproportionately pushed outside city limits by gentrification. Systemic racism is built into our housing system, and it will take a united movement of renters to fight back!
Logistics:
Meet at Murray Field at 3:30 pm on Saturday, June 27, to hear from Samia tenants, Black Lives Matter activist, and Boston Rent Strike organizers. Murray field is directly adjacent to The Samia Company’s administrative office. Let this slumlord know we’re not only escalating our fight for housing justice for Samia tenants, but for all tenants in the Boston area facing gentrification and eviction!
We will be joined by the City Life/Vida Urbana caravan during the rally. Our coalition stands in solidarity against systemic racism in housing! If traveling by car, join CityLife's multi-stop caravan and meet us at Murray Field!
Our Demands:
-- SAMIA:
IMMEDIATELY RESPOND TO TENANT LETTERS
RELEASE US FROM ABUSIVE LEASES
NO EVICTIONS FOR NON-PAYMENT OF RENT
NO COPS ENFORCING EVICTIONS
REDUCE THE RENT!
-- DEFUND THE POLICE TO FUND AFFORDABLE HOUSING!
-- NOT ONE COVID EVICTION!
-- WE NEED RENT CONTROL!
