From flautist Barzallai Lew to jazz artist Johnny Hodges, Boston’s Black musical culture uplifts the city’s iconic historical influence across the nation. Often overlooked in comparison to influential cities such as New York City and New Orleans, Boston is home to generations of musical identity. Exploring various time periods, we will connect with Black musical figures within the Greater Boston area.
