The 2nd annual March for Science will take place at Boston’s Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park on April 14. Speakers will include academic, professional and political leaders representing the city’s dynamic scientific community. The public event will offer opportunities to engage with activists from organizations that are fighting climate change, advocating for evidence-based policy, and promoting access to opportunities in the sciences for all.
The musical group “Vocal Opposition” and others will be performing to energize and inspire the crowd.
March for Science — Boston 2018 is one of over 175 similar events being held around the globe in response to continuing attacks on science, research, and fact-based governance. This year’s march, organized by Better Future Project, comes at a time when many federal agencies charged with advancing scientific initiatives on numerous fronts are struggling in the wake of significant budget cuts. The current administration in Washington has slashed budgets for climate research, put climate change deniers in top positions, and ignored studies of health risks related to pesticides and mountain-top coal mining. The voices of scientists are going unheard at a time when they are most needed. Organizers are calling for expanded opportunities in science and engineering across race, gender, and socioeconomic divides.
