Join us for Partnerships and Placemaking in the Time of COVID, part of this year's Boston Design Week, and taking place virtually via Zoom on Wednesday, May 5 at 6:30pm.
This virtual panel discussion will focus on the goals, partnerships, and design principles behind Hatched: Breaking Through the Silence, a 30-night multisensory illumination experience commissioned by the Esplanade Association to celebrate 20 years of partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
The Esplanade Association has worked in collaboration with DCR since 2001 to revitalize and enhance the Charles River Esplanade, sustain its natural green space, and build community in the park by providing educational, cultural, and recreational programs for the park's millions of annual visitors.
Amidst the turmoil and darkness of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Esplanade Association aspired to commission a joyful -- and safe --destination art piece in celebration of the 64-acre Esplanade and the public-private partnership that has made it the vibrant urban park it is today.
This panel on Partnerships and Placemaking in the Time of COVID explores the foundations of Hatched, the women-led team that created it, the groundbreaking technology behind its mesmerizing animations, and the Esplanade Association's efforts to bring tens of thousands of masked, physically-distant visitors to the DCR Hatch Shell in a year when the iconic Art Deco bandstand had largely fallen silent.
You must register for Boston Design Week: Partnerships and Placemaking in the Time of COVID in order to receive our Zoom link. We'll follow up closer to the date of our event in order to share the instructions for joining by Zoom.
