The 79th Annual Tree Lighting on Boston Common will be a virtual celebration broadcast on WCVB Channel 5 on December 3 beginning at 7:00 p.m. This tradition is a partnership with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, title sponsor The Province of Nova Scotia, presenting sponsors Exelon Generation and Xfinity, promotional sponsor the Coca-Cola Company, and media sponsors WCVB Channel 5, Magic 106.7 FM, and the Boston Globe. Due to current public health guidelines, there will be no live event on the Boston Common.
This year, the celebrations will be virtual due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

More about Nova Scotia's annual Christmas tree for Boston:
On December 6, 1917, two ships collided in the Halifax harbor causing a devastating explosion which killed nearly 2,000 people and left hundreds more severely injured and homeless. Nova Scotia will never forget the support Boston provided, and to say thank you, the province will once again give the people of Boston the gift of a beautiful Christmas tree. For decades, this tradition has honored the kindness Bostonians offered Nova Scotians in our time of need. This year marks the 101st anniversary of the explosion.
