Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) announces “Big Sing,” a special performance featuring more than 400 youth singers from East Boston. The concert, in English and Spanish, brings together the local student singers with special guest artist, Gaby Cotter from the Berklee College of Music, and a live band for a morning of joyful singing.
Taking place on Tuesday, March 21 at 10:30am at the Excel Academy High School (401 Bremen Street, East Boston, MA 02128), tickets are free and open to the public (first-come, first served).
“Big Sing” builds on the community-based after school programming the BCC began last year with East Boston-based non-profit, ZUMIX. This performance draws in students from five partner schools in East Boston, and they’ll be performing for the first time as a large ensemble at this concert!
Conducted by Robert McFletcher and Nina Kasper, this special event is the culmination of a series of workshops at each school. Partner schools and educators are: Manon Michel from the Excel Greenway Academy; Bryan Bigelow from the Donald McKay School; Emily Dawson from The Curtis Guild School; Kramer Gibson from Umana Academy; and Claire Carney from Bradley Elementary School.
"Boston Children's Chorus has loved being in such close collaboration with the amazing singers of East Boston to put this project together,” says Andrés Holder, Executive Director of BCC. “Convening this group of passionate and joyful voices in such an ambitious way is a new venture for us, and we can't wait to feel the energy of this massive chorus when they meet for the first time on Tuesday of next week. East Boston is a neighborhood brimming with talent, and we are delighted to be part of it."
