ZACH MAYER/UTSAV LAL DUO
This will be the debut collaboration between two outstanding musicians who met while attending the New England Conservatory.
Zach Mayer is a baritone & soprano saxophonist , composer and singer from New York City who currently resides in Boston after attending the New England Conservatory. He is a member of the very inventive Boston based band Night Tree who have been creating quite a buzz in the Northeast and beyond performing music infused with elements of Celtic, Swedish, Jewish, Afro-Cuban, jazz & classical influences while incorporating a healthy dose of improvisation. Zach has contributed many of his own compositions to the group. He is interested in music from around the world and has sat in with groups from other cultures whenever he has the opportunity. While at NEC he performed with musicians from Seoul, Korea.

Utsav Lal is an extraordinary musician who has set a precedent in the world of music by performing the tradition of Indian ragas on the piano often accompanied by a tabla player. Choosing to perform on an instrument that has traditionally been considered unsuitable for Hindustani Classical Music, Utsav's innovative handling of a raga blends his diverse musical influences and has left listeners spellbound. Utsav also experiments with a number of other music forms including Irish & Scottish traditional music, jazz, and free form improvisation. He has performed with the great Irish fiddler Martin Hayes and more recently collaborated with Irish-American fiddler and educator Winnie Horan (Solas).

Zach Mayer and Utsav Lal come from very different backgrounds yet both are true music explorers so this collaboration should prove to be an exciting and adventurous one.
