MORE ABOUT "Ideas, Not Theories": a theatrical percussion company for unconventional percussion instruments that offers several programs featuring Reynaliz Herrera's original music for bicycles and other unconventional instruments. “BIKEncerto…” will be performed as a NEW program of “Ideas, Not Theories”, performed by the “Ideas, Not Theories Orchestra” (orchestra specifically produced for the premiere of this new work). Other programs regularly offered by Ideas, Not Theories have included: The “Ideas, Not Theories- Full Staged Show” a full staged theatrical program featuring bicycles, water, tap and body percussion, brushes etc, The “Ideas, Not Theories- Bicycle Rock Band”, among others.

MORE ABOUT Reynaliz Herrera: an award winning Mexican-born percussionist, composer, and educator who after starting her studies at the ESMD on Monterrey, MX, graduated from The University of Ottawa (BMus) and The Boston Conservatory (Master of Music) . Reynaliz holds a 20-year performing career and has performed in countries like the U.S., Mexico, Cuba, Canada, Spain, Italy, and Germany. She has collaborated with renowned ensembles, like The National Arts Center Orchestra (as a percussion soloist), Danza Contemporanea En Concierto (Mexico), and Double Edge Theater Company (U.S.A), and has performed at venues like SXSW Festival, The Palau Hall (Spain), Teatro Amadeo Roldan (Cuba), Wang Center and Paramount Theater and Revolutions International Theater Festival (NM). In 2012, she founded “Ideas, Not Theories” which she has toured and performed at renowned festivals and venues in the U.S, Mexico and Canada, such as The Institute of Contemporary Arts Boston, The Currents New Media Festival 2021 (NM), The International Festival of Arts & Ideas (CT), The Flea Theater (NYC), The National Arts Center of Canada, M.I.T, Please Touch Museum (PA), The Boston Children’s Museum, Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, and Brooklyn Children’s Museum, World Maker Faire, NY International Fringe Festival, NYU/KoSA/HLAG Day of Percussion, and many local festivals and venues. Reynaliz has also won national and international competitions and awards in Mexico, Canada, and Cuba.


MORE ABOUT The Boston Foundation’s Live Arts Boston Grants program: Performing artists, small performing arts organizations, bands, and groups of artists in the Greater Boston area were invited to apply for support to create, produce, or present new performing arts work for Greater Boston audiences. In addition to $15,000 each, LAB 2021 grantees will receive project documentation, one-on-one advising, peer networking opportunities, and support for other professional development, in partnership with local arts service organization Dunamis. Funding supports work in dance, theater, music, opera, musical theater, spoken word, performance art, circus arts, traditional and folk performing arts, and any multi-disciplinary combination of the above. In the 2021 cycle, LAB is supporting 65 projects out of 308 applications.

Somerville LCC program grants are reviewed by SAC board members and local peers with expertise in the appropriate disciplines. Each year new panelists are convened to review new submissions. Grants are available for projects in the community, individual fellowships, and support to schools for art projects or cultural field trips.
